Amics de la Terra, Biciutat de Mallorca and GOB support Palma Council’s decision to make the immediate area surrounding the magnificent Gothic cathedral free of cars.
Parked cars next to the Seu ruin the appearance of this unique building, perhaps the most representative of our city, in which, on the other hand, pedestrians should have priority. Transport emissions pollution also blacken buildings’ walls.
The trend – in line with what’s happening in many towns and cities in our cultural environment – is to rid historic centres of cars, reducing their numbers to what’s strictly necessary.
Keeping in mind that taxis can park temporarily next to the cathedral, we ask the council to find a solution that allows the professional ‘taxi tours’ to exist alongside protecting the area’s great artistic value.
