In memory of Fukushima - never again!
Last Saturday (10 March 2012), we gathered along with dozens of other people in Plaza de Cort in Palma to remember the victims and the nuclear accident that shocked Fukushima and the entire world one year ago. This is the manifesto that we and all the meeting's other organising bodies signed. (In Catalan only; translate using Google Translate|http:/translate.google.es#ca.)
Nuclear power? No thank you!
Spain's first nuclear power station was the Zorita (or 'José Cabrera') station in 1968, followed later by Garoña in the Valle de Tobalina (Burgos) in 1971. The remaining projects came in the 1980s, such as the Almaraz I, Ascó I and Almaraz II power stations. Today, there are a total of 8 nuclear power stations currently in operation in our country.
'Fukushima never again. For a nuclear-free future'
The environmental groups Amics de la Terra, GOB and Greenpeace Mallorca, along with Fundación Deixalles, call on every person, association and organisation to join the fight against nuclear energy on the first anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe in Japan.
Amics de la Terra, Amics de la Vall de Coanegra, GOB and Gadma demand that streams be managed as natural systems, not as simple drainage channels
29022012 In recent months, these bodies have reported the environmentally unfriendly method adopted by the Agriculture, Environment and Land Department for carrying out work on streams. The 'clean ups' have basically been done using heavy machinery, which has completely destroyed some sections of the streams, without taking into account that they are natural systems with important environmental functions.
Tree planting at Son Torrella, Sunday 4th March
This Sunday (4 March 2012), we will finally carry out reforestation work at Son Torrella (Puig Major). The snow has all gone and the weather forecast is good! We will meet at the finca at 10am (the road from Sóller to Lluc, just after the Monnáber tunnel: the entrance to the Son Torrella finca is on the right, next to the small military reservoir).
