To produce all the carrier bags that are made in Spain we would need 393.75 million kilos of potatoes As a solution for reducing the number of plastic bags that pollute our rivers, woodland or seas for years, the government has brought out a law (Ley 22/2011) that proposes substituting these non-biodegradable bags with carriers made from food produce.

Europe must lead the way at the next Climate Summit in Cancún, Mexico, in December 2010. However, Spain hasn't even reduced its CO2 emissions to the level agreed by European countries, but has had to buy 'carbon credits' with 638m€ of public money.
